2026
IPONS 28th International Nursing Philosophy Conference — UC Irvine, 22–24 July 2026. Seven of us on one programme, “Listening and Speaking Otherwise: Encounters at the Edge of Nursing and Philosophy”. Jess co-chaired the conference. The collective’s symposium Nursing the Borderlands brought together Jane (facilitating), Annie-Claude, Brandon and Eva. Jamie and Jess held the invited conversation Camp and the Politics of Seriousness in Nursing and Health Philosophy — what happens when nursing stops being polite and starts getting real — and Jamie facilitated the panel Camp, Professionalism, and Performative Critique (with Patrick presenting) and joined the invited conversation Thinking the Event of Nursing. “Rumor Without Recourse: The Lavender Scare Comes to Teacher’s College” — Jess presented her queer nursing history research at the UMass Elaine Marieb College of Nursing speaker series, March 2026.

Medical (Post) Humanities Conference — Jamie explored the issues with person-centred care, considering who the ‘person’ is in this context: a person-centred approach to medicine assumes the person to be a rational agent without vulnerabilities or contingencies, and evidence-based approaches rely further on the patient’s body fitting normative categories.
What nursing chooses not to know: practices of epistemic silence/silencing — Jess led an invited panel at the International Philosophy of Nursing Conference 2022, featuring Lucinda Canty, Ismalia De Sousa, Janice Gullick, Amélie Perron, and Claire Valderama-Wallace. Watch →
