(he/him)

PhD, MA, MSc, BSc (Hons), RN · Berlin and the UK

Jamie B Smith is a white, cis, queer newly middle class man. He is a nurse, Senior Research Fellow at Edinburgh Napier University, and research associate at the Institute of Gender in Medicine, Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin, moving between research and clinical practice in the NHS. His Edinburgh PhD developed a posthuman institutional ethnography of nursing. His work explores how power, humans, and non-humans produce intimate relations and care in more-than-human worlds, combining critical posthuman theory and feminist new materialism with mixed methods research on nursing workforces, stress, and structural inequality. He serves on the editorial board of Nursing Philosophy, where he guest-edited the journal’s camp collection (2026) — see Projects.
